5.5. Enhancing Scene Rendering

You can render existing Open Inventor or VRML scenes with DirectViz instead of OpenGL, without making any change in the scene graph (possible differences are described below in this section).

However in order to use the powerful features of DirectViz, some changes in the scene graph may be needed. These changes don’t affect classical OpenGL rendering – they are simply ignored.

This section first introduces how rendering Open Inventor scenes with ray-tracing may differ from OpenGL rendering and some quick steps to enhance scene rendering. Then it describes the shader nodes that can be used for controlling DirectViz rendering.
